Once you have completed your training and attained the status of a certified electrician, you can easily become self-employed and earn as much as £10 per hour. If you are really good at your job and have an extended work history as a highly-skilled electrician, you can work as an improver and earn about £11-£12 per hour. An improver is a person who provides general assistance and supervision to electricians such as passing on instructions, handing over cables and required equipment and dealing with the clients.
Electricians usually use a wide range of electronic equipment therefore it’s important that you have a good knowledge of all electronic tools i.e. what they are and what are they used for. A typical day in the life of an electrician involves installing different electrical equipment such as heaters, generators, fridges and refrigerators and stoves. After the equipment has been installed correctly, electricians are supposed to make sure that everything works properly and are responsible for any repairs should the need arise. If you are working as a qualified electrician, you will be required to set-up the entire cable network at various construction sites. You will be required to connect the cables to switchgear and ensure that the electrical wiring functions properly.
If you choose to work at a power station, you will be expected to install all on-site power generators and carry out their maintenance at regular intervals. In addition to that, you will ensure safe functioning of all electrical transformers and meters that are present on site.
